Did you know? African American Mother’s Are More Predisposed to Adverse Birth Outcomes

DID YOU KNOW? African American infants have 2 times the rate of preterm delivery and low birth rates as Nonhispanic-White infants. African American infants have 3 times the rate of very low birth weight (<1500 grams or 3lbs, 4oz) and very preterm delivery (<32 weeks gestation). Low birth weight and preterm delivery are the leading causes of infant mortality for African American infants. The infant mortality rate is 5.7 per 1,000 Caucasian infants and is 13.3 per 1,000African American infants.

Mika’s Story
