Kevin Tamaki, MUP
Kevin Tamaki has enjoyed an over 40-year private and public sector career in public affairs, telecommunications, non-profit leadership, local government consulting, and education. Currently, he is principal at Tamaki Consulting where he served from 2018 to 2021 as economic development and local business consultant to Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, who represents the west San Fernando Valley communities of Canoga Park, Reseda, Tarzana, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills. Kevin is most proud of helping the councilmember meet and support small business owners by hearing their issues and concerns and providing them with resources including information on COVID-19 pandemic economic assistance programs. Earlier, Kevin taught English as a Second Language for the LAUSD at Van Nuys Community Adult School, and later he taught an undergraduate course on leadership and social responsibility at Woodbury University. Currently, he is chair emeritus of i.D.R.E.A.M. for Racial Health Equity, an organization dedicated to building a healthy community through leadership, education, and advocacy. Kevin works to honor i.D.R.E.A.M.’s mission to end implicit bias, health disparities, and maternal and infant mortality impacting African American women and their families. He is a member of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association board of directors, where he served as VICA board chairman from 2016 to 2017. Prior to joining Team Blumenfield, Kevin was a public affairs manager at AT&T. He represented the company with local, state, and federal elected and appointed officials on telecommunications issues including wireless and wireline network deployment, public works construction, and wireless antenna applications.
Kevin has served on many non-profit boards including The Executives (Los Angeles Jewish Health), Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California, United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley, New Directions for Youth, The Valley Economic Alliance, West Valley – Warner Center Chamber of Commerce (formerly Woodland Hills Chamber), Go For Broke National Education Center (past chairman), Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council, Universal City – North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce (formerly Mid-Valley Chamber), AbilityFirst (formerly Crippled Children’s Society of Southern California), Asian Business Association – Los Angeles, Fernando Award Foundation, Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg’s San Fernando Valley Business Advisory Commission, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Valley Leadership Institute, and Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association. In recognition of his community service, Kevin received the Valley Interfaith Council Human Relations Award, the Presidential Award from the Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce, a Special Award from the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley, and the 19 th Annual Harmon Ballin Community Service Award from VICA. An avid runner, he trained in the hills of Porter Ranch and ran a half-marathon to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training in honor of his friend, Marc, a tenacious anti-smoking advocate, who ironically passed away from oral cancer. A Los Angeles native, Kevin attended L.A. Valley College and he graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA degree in political science, and from the University of Michigan with a Master of Urban Planning degree. He lives in Valencia, CA with his wife, Uma Chopra, and they have three grown children.
